During the "Saranaide" recording session from a few days ago I was able to try out our brand new AEA R88 stereo ribbon microphone for the first time. WOW - what an incredible sounding microphone. It sounds larger than life and it's physically larger than any microphone I've ever seen. It was used as a room mic - the intended application for this microphone and it was used in the largest room at LBA. The hall when you first walk in, has been under construction for the past 3 weeks or so, as we radically transform this space into a wonderful sounding room for recording. It has always sounded huge in there, but now we're improving the tone of the room while also improving its appearance. Spray foam insulation was applied to the upper part of the walls where it meets the ceiling around the entire room. The walls have been patched and painted. Acoustic panels have been installed. An entire wall was knocked down! There was a wall in the middle of the room that separated the stair case from the rest of the room. That is no more and it makes the space sound larger and better.
